Passion to Reach Ministries
Investing & Depositing
By John Mc Donald
One of the greatest needs in the Church today is the development of Statesmen.
This goes beyond being a leader to being a great Leader. It implies age,
maturity, integrity, godliness, respect, acceptance, knowledge and wisdom.
The Church is crying out for these leaders who will transcend denominational
boundaries, petty church politics and partisanship.
A second need related to the above, is to develop Leaders who Mentor.
People who will take and Invest and Deposit their skills, knowledge, contacts,
godliness and character into the younger generation.
I remember talking with an older pastor recently who was wondering about his
usefulness in the Kingdom anymore. I spoke into his life powerfully when I
suggested he now had the privilege of becoming a “Patriarch of the Faith”.
His response was interesting, “I never thought of myself as being able to step
into that role”.
The truth is not every person is able to do it, but those who have invested their
lives into the Kingdom still have a lot of mileage left in them and can.
It becomes a “new season” of life. God didn’t leave us to languish out our later
years.
Our later years, can be greater than our former! You probably couldn’t fill that
role when you were younger, because the necessary maturing had not yet taken
place.
I think every church needs to purposefully develop a mentoring program to
take young prospective leaders with great potential and accelerate their
knowledge, skills and visions into reality.
I’ve met dozens of young men and women who have incredible visions,
godliness & potential who are just sitting in pews waiting for leadership to
announce the time that they can be used of God.
No wonder most of them eventually just get up, walk out the door and do
their “call from God” on their own.
Then you hear the condemnation – “they just were not submissive”.
They have the greatest decisions in life given to them at ages of 18 and up.
Chose a career, a marriage partner, have a baby, buy a house or car, leave
home, travel the world. But we stumble when it comes to investing in
their “vision”.
It’s the old scriptural position – “give and it shall be given unto you”,
invest in them and watch your investment reap great dividends.
Most of us financially, like to invest and deposit in things of great potential.
Here’s a chance for the church to re-evaluate its budget and drop a few
thousand in human resources. Will they make mistakes?
Of course; so did (do) we! They usually aren’t fatal. Just setbacks.
If mentored properly, they will rise from the ashes of their errors and soar
to greater heights.
In every mentee, I look for godliness, teachability and potential.
Probably more true in our older years than in our younger, but I’m persuaded
every generation has something to deposit in a new generation that will cause
them to rise in boldness and courage.
Imagine the effect of a new generation upon the world, empowered by the
Holy Spirit and released by the Church?
They might even be the source of a New Christian Revolution.
Like the original disciples, eh?
